Although many models and frameworks have been developed, the practice of fostering transformative learning remains as illusive (Mezirow & Taylor, 2009). As Taylor points out: “like any other education approach, it is rooted in ideals and when the realities of practice are explored, it becomes difficult to get a handle on how it plays out …” (p. 3).
With this session, we (two experienced transformative learning scholar-practitioners) are intending to make the transition from theory to practice less illusive. By presenting and putting in action two different practical methods developed in two different countries and using different lenses, one more phenomenological (Kairos) and one more rational and critically reflective (Action Learning Conversations) we also hope that our attendees will leave the session with rich insights and important ideas about different ways they can facilitate transformation in their setting.
